The Sea Cadet Corps (SCC), founded in 1856, is a dynamic, maritime-themed youth organisation that inspires young people aged 10–18 to explore Britain’s rich seafaring heritage and develop skills through nautical adventure and training.

In the Wessex region, hundreds of cadets and dedicated Adult Volunteers participate through local Sea Cadet Units. Working in partnership with the Marine Society & Sea Cadets and the Royal Navy, the SCC offers cadets a wide range of water-based activities including:

  • Sailing
  • Powerboating
  • Canoeing and rowing
  • Windsurfing and diving

Sea Cadets also have opportunities to compete in local and national regattas and earn recognised qualifications such as:

  • BTEC in Marine Engineering
  • Royal Yachting Association (RYA) accredited courses

These activities not only give young people practical maritime skills but also build confidence, leadership, and resilience—offering a strong foundation for future careers or personal growth.
